Touring France

We are on Tour again this summer.

All is on hold for four hours every morning while Alan and I watch the Tour de France (also known more recently as the Dope de France) live on ESPN.

I love the cat-and-mouse of the race itself, and the wide pans of the camera to the chateaus and gorgeous countryside of France is an extra bonus.

So we will listen to Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen as they take us through the next month of bicycle racing. We haven't heard of any drug scandals…yet, but today there were French workers on strike blocking the race for a short spell until they got their message out across the airwaves, then they moved off the course.

Yes Sarah, its Tour de France in this household too at the moment.I dare not speak and if the telephone rings it's "Leave it...leave it...".(My husband is a cyclist).Last time Phil Ligget came here for the Tour Down Under he gave a fascinating interview on the radio. His life, his career, his marriage, everything really. He loves his work, and it is always a joy to listen to someone who is lucky enough to have that pleasure.

It's ridiculous, really. My husband and I walk for an hour every morning and then hustle back to sit for the next four. I usually get restless and return to my writing unless it's a particularly exciting day. But the French countryside is so gorgeous.

Can you imagine careening around curves on a mountain peek with the pack all around you? Can you imagine even having the lung capacity to walk up the slope? It is spectacular scenery. I miss Lance.
